Ulster Ancestry
DESCRIPTION:
Quick and simple, Ulster Ancestry conducts genealogy and family history research in Northern Ireland. They undertake family history research in the Province of Ulster primarily in the counties of Antrim, Armagh, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Down, Londonderry/Derry and Donegal.
Using the archives at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland with its numerous family pedigrees, family notes, wills, land records ,deeds, leases, and most important both Catholic and Protestant Parish Church records of birth and marriage, they endeavour to put their clients in touch once again with their early family in Ireland.
If you prefer to conduct your own family research you can save a considerable amount of time and greatly increase your chances of success by requesting an "Initial Report". In this Initial Report they look for evidence of your family in the most important 19th century Irish genealogical resources, The Tithe Applotment Books (1824-1853) and Griffth’s Valuation of Ireland (1848-1864). They'll inform you where and when your ancestor's name was recorded in these records. They'll also provide you with detailed information on available Church records for your ancestor’s Parish. This report is available for all of the Ulster Counties.
PROS:
Unlike most of the genealogy research services on the Internet, this ia about as personal and humanized as you can get. So much so that Ulster Ancestry will even contact existing relatives and speak to them on your behalf if you so wish. A very refreshing and unique approach to aiding you in building your family tree.
CONS:
This is a very specific service, so it doesn't apply to everyone.
SUMMARY:
If you've traced your roots back to Northern Ireland, then this is a good next step. The advantage with Ulster Ancestry is that the service is actually located in Northern Ireland, so they have direct access to many of the records.
