The Genealogy Today Family Tree Connection is a collection of data indexed from a variety of secondary sources such as high school and college yearbooks, club and society member lists, insurance company policy listings, church records, passenger souvenir booklets and much, much more. All materials are compiled from hundreds of rare documents, pamphlets and unique out-of-print books that contain genealogical tidbits about people from around the world. PROS: I don't know where to begin on my genealogy. These are the words of many of us as we first begin to explore our family histories. And it's these words that start off a section of Genealogy Today called Getting Started. This is a great article, with links to other articles that will take you step-by-step through the process of evaluating the information you currently have on your ancestry, gathering new information, and putting it altogether. A definite plus for this website, along with their Genealogy Marketplace (see ), which includes over 700 great gift and supply items, along with 6,000 self-published family histories, hundreds of city directories and discounted magazines. CONS: Like many of the genealogy sites on the Internet, there's a certain sense of overwhelm when you first arrive at the website. You aren't sure what you should do, what services are being offered, what's free and what isn't. It all seems a little like the first time you tried to figure out how to use a VCR. In addition, the Family Tree Connection database isn't as extensive as some of the others you'll find on the Internet. SUMMARY: Unlike some of the Internet genealogy databases, the Genealogy Today Family Tree Connection database is reasonably-priced and a good place to start out. Beyond the database itself, Genealogy Today provides some great information and a unique Marketplace. PRICE: An annual subscription offers unlimited access to the Family Tree Connection database (including images of people in the FTC source documents), along with discounts on purchases in The Marketplace.
